Continuing the conversation through the sharing of best practices and experiences related to pressure injuries is imperative given the variety of root causes and contributing factors. Focusing on management and mitigation of risk factors to aid in prevention is a central tenet to addressing this problem.
The National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (NPUAP) will be releasing updated guidelines in November 2019. The Veteran’s Administration (VA) adopted a directive earlier this year related to the prevention and management of pressure injuries.
This pacing event will expand the discussion from the previous September meeting which included root causes, management of darkly pigmented skin, and nutritional assessment were introduced. Additional topics to be addressed will include gaining buy-in at all levels of the hospital as well as considerations around pressure injury management across the healthcare continuum.
