Despite recent efforts, pain management and opioid use continues to be a serious challenge. Join us for this Medication Safety LAN Event to hear from Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of Colorado Denver, Dr. Amy Wachholtz. She will address four major pain management areas: 1) empirical information on the critical role of psychological factors on the patient pain experience; 2) interventions that a health psychologist may use in a pain psychology appointment to help individuals understand the role of a pain psychologist in pain management; 3) home-based strategies patients can use to reduce their pain experience; and 4) identify ways to integrate this information into a standard 15-minute appointment to better inform opioid prescribing and pain psychology referrals. We will hear from both the provider and patient experiences. We will also hear about Quality Innovation Network-Quality Improvement Organization (QIN-QIO) Special Innovation Project happening at the community level to engage the local hospital, practitioners, and patients to reduce inappropriate opioid prescribing.
