Environmental Services (EVS) and Infection Prevention (IP): The Importance of Partnerships

As part of the Knock Out Infections—ASC Infection Prevention Initiative funded by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to help reduce surgical site infections (SSIs) in ASCs, Health Services Advisory Group (HSAG) invites you to attend this important event. This webinar will discuss the importance of partnering between EVS and IP in ASCs. Annual competency examples will be shared to ensure that EVS staff receive ongoing education and training for their role.

Speaker: Angela Vassallo, MPH, MS, CIC, FAPIC, Clinical Improvement Advisor, Infection Prevention, HSAG

Angela Vassallo, a nationally recognized expert in infection prevention, has joined HSAG as the lead infection preventionist for the Ambulatory Surgical Center-Special Innovation Project (ASC-SIP). Prior to her role with HSAG, she was the director of infection prevention/epidemiology at Providence St. John’s Health Center in Santa Monica. She is also faculty at two universities: West Coast University in Los Angeles, and Providence University in Great Falls, Montana, where she teaches graduate courses in epidemiology, infectious diseases, and health research methods.

Ms. Vassallo is certified in infection prevention and control and is a founding member of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) Fellows program. She is the past-president of California APIC, past-president of the Greater LA APIC chapter, and is the 2018 vice-chair of the national APIC Communications Committee. Ms. Vassallo is also the first infection prevention board member of Infectious Disease Association of California (IDAC) and is a founding member of the LA County Department of Public Health Healthcare-Acquired Infection (HAI) Advisory Committee.

She has a bachelor’s degree in international service from the American University, Washington, DC; a master’s in healthcare management from West Coast University; and a master’s in public health from the University of Texas, Houston.
