The Partnership to Improve Dementia Care

Top

In 2012, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) launched the National Partnership to Improve Dementia Care and Reduce Unnecessary Antipsychotic Medication Use in Nursing Homes. The goal of the partnership is to optimize the quality of life and function of nursing home residents by improving the approach to meet their behavioral health needs. CMS developed a national action plan that uses a multidimensional approach targeting enhanced person-centered care, particularly those with dementia-related behaviors.

The Florida Partnership to Individualize Dementia Care in Nursing Homes is a collaborative of long-term care stakeholders working to refine dementia care in nursing homes throughout the state. This collaborative formed to meet CMS’ National Partnership goal to reduce the use of antipsychotic drugs in nursing home residents. The Partnership continues its efforts to focus beyond this initial objective while reducing duplication of effort, pooling resources, and ensuring that Florida is successful in this initiative.
